YPU, Jakarta. That morning, Saturday, 5th May 2012, the sky above northern Jakarta looked clear. It was as clear as the faces and hearts of the YPU students who were about to attend the national seminar of “National Creative Young Entrepreneur” at Bunda Mulia University (UBM), North Jakarta.
The program with the theme Dream Day would start at 9:00 to 16:00 at the UBM Auditorium. The participants consisted of high school students from all around Jabodetabe as well as UBM undergraduates.
The speakers were as follows: Mdm Mooryati Soedibyo (Founder of Mustika Ratu) and Mdm Sylvia Efi Widyantati Sumarlin (Chairman of Public Information Technology of Indonesia) and the Economy Minister Mr. M. Hatta Radjasa as well as Mr. Yohanes Dani, Chairman of the Dream Day UBM Committee.
According to Mdm Mooryati, it is never too late to be an entrepeneur. It is more important to have a strong entrepreneur spirit; to dare to be different and being able to transform a simple idea into something valuable. The keys of being a successful entrepreneur lie in the strength of a person’s commitment, a personality where one is willing to learn, creativity, innovation and pro-activeness. Apart from those, one has to continuously train his ability, has high willpower and is able to create opportunities. There are four main components that an entrepreneur should have. They are skill/ ability, courage, resolution as well as innovation and creativity.
Mdm Sylvia W. Sumarlin also said that strong spirit and a hardworking attitude are values that a business person should have.
In the seminar, the students from YPU had the opportunity start the day’s program; They performed a song with the accompaniment of angklung.
The climax of the national seminar was the signing of MoU between UBM and five establishments; two of them were Communication Forum of Indonesian Orphanage (FKPA) as well as Yayasan Prima Unggul (YPU). There was a special situation, whereby the Economy Minister Mr. Ir. M. Hatta Radjasa had agreed to witness the event. As a way to show their appreciation, the students of YPU presented a handmade souvenir of painted egg shells.
In his speech, Mr. Hatta said that only strong willed people could realise their dreams. On the other hand, people with cowardly mentality, lazy and those who enjoy being in their comfort zone are not suitable to be entrepreneurs. One needs to have a forward looking vision, dare to take a risk and able to create opportunities for himself.
The spirit of entrepreneurship was further affirmed by Mr Johannes Danni: “At this point of time, the competition to be an entrepreneur is not only between college students but also against children from the orphanage.”
